United Medical Clinic (UMC) provides pediatric care for babies, children, and teens from birth to age 18 in Lisbon (Saldanha) and Porto (Trindade). Our English-speaking pediatricians and family doctors offer well-child visits, vaccinations, treatment of acute and chronic conditions, rapid tests, lab work, and medical certificates, in the clinic, at home, and online. A pediatrician consultation costs €95, and home visits start at €150. No referral is needed, and we work with Portuguese and international insurance providers.

Regular pediatric follow-up matters most in the first year of life, when a baby's growth and development change from month to month, and we continue to care for children through their teen years. When a child needs more specialized care, the pediatrician works with UMC's ENT doctors, dermatologists, pediatric surgeon, child psychiatrist, psychologist, and other specialists, so many questions can be handled within one clinic.

English-Speaking Pediatricians and Family Doctors

All our pediatricians and the family doctors listed below speak English, as do our administrators and call center staff. You can describe your child's symptoms, ask questions, and discuss the care plan directly with the doctor. For families who speak other languages, a medical coordinator can interpret during clinic visits free of charge.

Lisbon (Saldanha):

Porto (Trindade):

All our pediatricians also make home visits. When you book online, enter your child's age to see the doctors available for that age group.

A Clinic Designed for Children

  • A pediatric room in both clinics, set up like a playroom so babies, children, and teens feel calmer during the examination.
  • Changing tables in the pediatric room and in the restrooms.
  • A small "bravery reward" after vaccinations or blood draws, so children build a positive relationship with doctors from an early age.
  • Support after the visit: your doctor reviews test results, adjusts the treatment plan, and answers follow-up questions.

When to See a Pediatrician

  • Well-child visits: growth, weight, head circumference, and growth percentiles, as well as motor, speech, and cognitive development.
  • Vaccinations: following the Portuguese National Vaccination Program (PNV) and international schedules.
  • Acute illness: fever, cough, runny nose, sore throat, ear pain, vomiting, diarrhea, or a rash.
  • Chronic and recurrent conditions: asthma, allergies, atopic dermatitis, and frequent infections.
  • Development and behavior: motor or speech delays, learning difficulties, attention problems, and adjusting to a new school or a new country.
  • Feeding and daily care: breastfeeding, formula, starting solid foods, and sleep.
  • Medical certificates: for daycare, school, sports, and other activities.

Conditions We Treat

  • Respiratory infections: colds, flu, COVID-19, bronchiolitis, bronchitis, and pneumonia, with assessment of severity and follow-up.
  • Childhood infections: chickenpox, measles, strep throat, ear infections, and viral or bacterial gastroenteritis.
  • Allergies: food allergies, allergic rhinitis, and skin reactions.
  • Digestive problems: colic, diarrhea, constipation, and suspected food intolerance.
  • Skin conditions: rashes, eczema, skin infections, and reactions to insect bites.
  • Chronic conditions: asthma, diabetes, obesity, and atopic dermatitis.
  • Teen health: acne, menstrual problems, sleep, nutrition, weight, and emotional well-being.

Check-Ups and the First-Year Program

Prevention is a large part of our work. Regular check-ups help catch problems early and give parents a clear plan for their child's health.

  • Kids & Teens 0–18 Check-Up (€570): a consultation with a pediatrician or family doctor, abdominal and urinary tract ultrasound, an ECG, and lab tests in one visit, followed by a written report and an online consultation to go over the results.
  • Annual Program for Babies Aged 0–1 (€1,450): 12 pediatric consultations in the clinic or online, 3 home visits, a vaccination plan, a newborn care course, priority booking, and 10% off clinic services for your baby during the program.

Vaccinations and Vaccination Records

We vaccinate children of all ages according to the PNV and international schedules. Beyond the standard schedule, we offer additional recommended vaccines, travel vaccines, and catch-up plans for children who have missed doses or moved from another country. The doctor creates a personalized schedule based on your child's vaccination history.

Moving to Portugal? We translate your child's foreign vaccination records and issue a Portuguese vaccination record (boletim de vacinas), which is useful for daycare and school enrollment. Bring all of your child's vaccination documents to the appointment. Vaccines are billed separately, so please check the availability of the vaccine you need when booking.

Rapid Tests, Lab Work, and Ultrasound

Both clinics offer rapid tests during the visit, so the doctor can make treatment decisions right away:

  • Strep A rapid test for strep throat;
  • flu A/B and COVID-19 rapid tests;
  • CRP (C-reactive protein) to help assess inflammation;
  • urinalysis to check for urinary tract infections;
  • bilirubin to monitor newborn jaundice;
  • heel prick test (newborn screening), free of charge.

We collect lab samples from children every day in Lisbon and Porto. Our team knows how to make blood draws quick and gentle for both the child and the parent. Lab tests are billed separately, and a focused appointment to review the results costs €55.

Ultrasound for children is done at UMC: in Lisbon by Dr. Nuno Martins, for children from birth, and in Porto by Dr. Estela de Vasconcelos. No referral is needed.

Home Visits and Newborn Care

All our pediatricians make home visits in Lisbon and Porto, whether your child is sick and should stay in or you would rather stay home with a newborn.

  • A full medical assessment at home.
  • Newborn home visits: growth, weight, head circumference, and developmental milestones.
  • Guidance for parents: breastfeeding, choosing a formula, starting solid foods, sleep routines, bathing, everyday care, and home safety.
  • Rapid tests and lab sample collection without a trip to the lab.
  • Certificates and forms for daycare and school.

Home visits start at €150. Our team will confirm the time and the final price based on your address.

Online Pediatric Consultations

Video consultations are convenient for follow-up visits, reviewing test results, and questions about feeding, sleep, and development. They are available to families anywhere in Europe. If your child needs a hands-on examination, the doctor will recommend a clinic appointment or a home visit.
