Experience

Dr. Carvalho is completing his radiology residency at ULS Lisboa Ocidental, one of Lisbon's major hospital groups, where diagnostic imaging and ultrasound are part of his daily work.

Since 2023, he has taught anatomy to medical students at NOVA Medical School. He is also an invited lecturer in a master's program in musculoskeletal physiotherapy and in a heart and lung course. A strong command of anatomy is the foundation of an accurate ultrasound exam.

How to Prepare

Preparation depends on the type of scan. For an abdominal ultrasound, you'll usually need to fast beforehand. For bladder, pelvic, and suprapubic prostate scans, you'll need to arrive with a full bladder. Thyroid, salivary gland, and scrotal ultrasounds need no preparation. You'll get exact instructions when you book.

Dr. Carvalho speaks English, Portuguese, and Spanish. A free medical coordinator is also available at every appointment to interpret between English, Portuguese, Russian, and Ukrainian.
